Collocation has many meaning in many branches, but if we are talking about computing, there is one main force, collocation as hosting services. Server collocation provides an alternative to the cost of running a dedicated line to your site. Actually Hosting companies (providers) offer you “free place” and you can do with it whatever you want (of course due business terms and conditions). This act is called pack of services, so you get several services to your rented server (virtual server, dedicated server, managed server). Beside this you can only place your computer to Hosting company’s hosting center. Once you have your server there, the server collocation provider will take over and install your server in their rack. You pay for all of this only s a rental charge.
In dependence upon chosen type of service you will get some software to server administration and running. This is particularly shown when you hire dedicated or managed server. Because if you hire managed server you get administration service in terms of managed server service. So your server is administrated by provider’s specialist. He could choose the best software that will he use for your server’s administration. But when you hire dedicated server, administration of your server depends only and only upon you. So you can use software what you know and what is friendly for you. |
